We’re proud to share that honey harvested right from our own rooftop has been entered into one of the country’s most prestigious apiculture competitions.
In collaboration with Rooftop Bees, honey collected from the beehives at our Banksmeadow bakery has been entered into the Sydney Royal National Honey Show, a true paddock-to-plate (or should we say hive-to-jar) moment for Bourke Street Bakery.
About the Competition
The Sydney Royal National Honey Show, held as part of the Sydney Royal Easter Show, is Australia’s premier apiculture competition. It recognises excellence across honey, beeswax, pollen, candles, chunk and comb honey, creamed and granulated honey, and mead.
First judged in 1888, the Show has helped set the benchmark for Australian beekeeping standards for well over a century. It’s open to all entrants and awards gold, silver and bronze medals, with an independent judging panel assessing each entry on flavour, aroma, clarity, density and presentation. Exhibitors also receive detailed feedback on their honey, which makes a Sydney Royal win a genuine achievement — and one that carries significant promotional weight within the industry.
At its heart, the National Honey Show celebrates the skill, dedication and vital role that apiculture plays in Australian agriculture — something we’re delighted to be a small part of, thanks to our rooftop hives and the team at Rooftop Bees.
